How to Make Product Photos with a White Background on iPhone

Create clean product photos with a white background on iPhone: how to shoot, remove the background with AI, and keep a consistent catalog look.

By Ayoub Farid · · 2 min read

A white background is the default look for online shops and marketplaces. It's clean, puts all the focus on the product and makes a catalog look consistent. You don't need a studio — an iPhone, a window and an AI background remover are enough.

Step 1: Shoot a good source photo

The cut-out can only be as good as the photo:

  • Use soft window light. Place the product near a window, out of direct sun.
  • Use a plain surface — a sheet of paper or a light table.
  • Fill the frame, but leave a little space around the edges.
  • Shoot straight on or at a slight angle, the way buyers would look at it.
  • Keep it sharp. Tap to focus on the product and hold still.
  • Don't hold it in your hand — fingers become part of the subject.

Step 2: Remove the background

  1. Open Erase Spark and choose Remove Background.
  2. Select your product photo.
  3. The AI isolates the product from everything behind it.
  4. Save the result.

Before that, use Remove Object to erase price stickers, dust or a stray cable on the product's surroundings if needed — see removing text and stickers.

Step 3: Place it on white

Put the cut-out on a pure white canvas in any design or listing app. Keep a small margin around the product and center it.

Honest product photos

Remove the background, not the truth. Don't erase scratches, stains or wear from the item itself — buyers will notice, and returns cost more than an honest photo. More in our photo editing ethics guide.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a white background for product photos on iPhone?

Shoot the product in soft light on a plain surface, remove the background with an app like Erase Spark, then place the cut-out on white.

Do I need a lightbox?

No. Window light and a sheet of white paper work well, and AI background removal takes care of the rest.

Why are the edges of my product rough?

Low contrast or blur. Shoot against a surface that contrasts with the product and make sure it's in focus.

Should I add a shadow?

A soft shadow under the product makes it look natural. Many marketplaces accept both with and without.
