How to Remove Clutter from Photos for a Clean Look

Remove clutter from photos on iPhone: cables, trash, cups and mess on tables, desks and rooms. A quick declutter checklist and AI eraser workflow.

By Ayoub Farid · · 2 min read

Clutter is the small stuff: the charging cable on the desk, the plastic bag on the counter, the bin in the corner, the remote on the sofa. None of it is a big deal on its own, but together it makes a photo look messy. Removing it is quick and makes a dramatic difference.

The 30-second clutter scan

Before you edit, look at the photo and list what doesn't belong:

  • Cables, chargers, power strips
  • Bins, bags, boxes
  • Cups, bottles, wrappers
  • Remotes, keys, phones
  • Tissues, receipts, papers
  • Signs, cones, construction tape (outdoors)

Then remove them from biggest to smallest.

Removing clutter with Erase Spark

1. Open Remove Object

Open Erase Spark, tap Remove Object and pick the photo.

2. One item per pass (for big items)

Paint over the bin, bag or box and tap Erase. Big items get their own pass.

3. Several small items at once

Small items on a simple surface — crumbs, a bottle cap, a receipt — can be painted together and erased in one go.

4. Don't forget cables

Trace cables with a small brush, just like removing power lines.

5. Compare

Use the before/after slider to make sure nothing important disappeared.

Know when to stop

A photo with zero objects can look staged and lifeless. Keep items that tell a story — a coffee cup on a reading table, a plant on a desk. Remove what distracts, not everything.

Try it on your own photos

Erase Spark makes decluttering fast: brush over the mess and AI fills the gap. Free to download on iPhone and iPad.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove clutter from a photo on iPhone?

Use an AI eraser app: brush over each item you don't want and tap Erase. Start with big items, then small ones.

Can I remove several objects at once?

Yes, if they're small and on a simple surface. Large items work better one at a time.

Will decluttering make my photo look fake?

Not if you keep a few natural items. Remove distractions, but leave things that belong in the scene.

Is it faster to tidy before shooting?

Yes, whenever you can. Editing is for the things you didn't notice or couldn't move.
